Court sends abortion drug case back to Okla. court

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Supreme Court on Thursday asked a state court to clarify a couple of questions about an Oklahoma anti-abortion law that bans off-label use of certain abortion-inducing drugs.

The justices want the Oklahoma Supreme Court to answer two questions about the state law before the high court considers an appeal from the Oklahoma attorney general.

The law passed in 2011 required doctors to follow strict guidelines authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and prohibited off-label uses of certain abortion-inducing drugs such as RU-486. Such moves include changing a recommended dosage or prescribing it for different symptoms than the drug was initially approved for. The law also required doctors to examine women before prescribing the drugs, document certain medical conditions and schedule follow-up appointments.

The New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights has sued to stop the law, arguing that the restrictions would leave women no choice but to undergo invasive surgeries to end their pregnancies. Judges have halted its enforcement, and the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled in December that the anti-abortion law was "facially unconstitutional" and that judges were right to prevent its enforcement.

The Supreme Court wants to know if the Oklahoma law "prohibits the use of misoprostol to induce abortions, including the use of misoprostol in conjunction with mifepristone according to a protocol approved by the Food and Drug Administration." The high court also wants to know if the law stops "the use of methotrexate to treat ectopic pregnancies," which is when an embryo implants somewhere outside of the uterus.

Mifepristone is also known as Mifeprex or RU-486, according to court papers.

The two sides arguing over the law disagree in court papers to the answer to those questions, so "further proceedings in this case are reserved pending receipt of a response from the Supreme Court of Oklahoma," the high court said in its statement.

The case is Cline v. Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice, 12-1094.

Sony's Xperia Z Ultra Phone Is... Nah, That's Not a Phone

Sony's Xperia Z Ultra Phone Is... Nah, That's Not a Phone

And here we face a conundrum. On the one hand, Sony's Xperia Z Ultra has salivation-worthy guts. On the other hand, the screen on this thing is 6.4 freaking inches! That's not a phone, that's a tablet you talk into.

Ignoring that for a moment, this thing sounds awesome. It'll come running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) on Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at an absurd 2.2GHz. It has an 8MP camera with the Exmor RS for mobile sensor, LTE, NFC, micro SD card slot, and 2GB of RAM.

There's some very impressive design going on with the body, too. At 6.5 millimeters (0.26 inches) it's one of the thinnest smartphones in the world (although thicker than the recently announced Huawei Ascend P6). For comparison, the iPhone 5 is 7.6 millimeters (0.30 inches). It's also dust-proof and waterproof (IP55 and IP58), so you should be able to drop it into a few feet of water and leave it for a half hour with no problem. We tested that recently with the Xperia Tablet Z, and it worked as advertised. You can use any pencil (and a lot of pens) as a stylus, which would make us nervous about screen scratching, but sure, why not. Speaking of the screen, it's 1080p, which gives it a very solid pixel density of 350 PPI, and it uses Sony's new TRILUMINOS technology, which may or may not mean something.

But let's address the elephant in the room. The elephant being the device itself, because they are roughly the same size. Samsung's Galaxy S4, with its 5-inch screen, is a phone. The Galaxy Note II, with its 5.5-inch screen, is what has become known as a "phablet" (weep for the English language). The Nexus 7, however, with its 7-inch screen, is a tablet. Sony's Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.4 inch screen. Now, let's do some simple math. The Ultra is 0.9 inches bigger than the Note II phablet, but it's only 0.6 inches smaller than the Nexus 7 tablet. Thus, it's more tablet than phone (or phablet, even). Just look at this thing in a normal person's hand!

Yes, sure, it does possess other characteristics of a phone, like an ear speaker and radio bandwidths for voice communication, but come on. There is no way it's going to fit comfortably into your pants pocket and there's no way you'll be able to do anything but read with it one-handed. We'd love to see these same guts in a smaller, more wieldy package, but it remains to be seen when such a day will come.

The Xperia Z Ultra launches globally in Q3 of this year. We look forward to going hands-on with it then. We anticipate needing both.

Supermoon: when to see it in all its glory

This weekend the moon reaches its full phase while also reaching the nearest-Earth position of its orbit, creating views of a 'supermoon.' It's a rare astronomical treat.

This weekend offers a rare start-of-summer treat: a ?supermoon? in which the moon reaches its full phase while also reaching the nearest-Earth position of its orbit.

' + google_ads[0].line2 + '
' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; // google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

The result: a bigger, brighter full moon than we?re accustomed to.

So you might want to grab another summer treat (ice cream? strawberries?) and gaze outward or upward to take in the view.

When is best?

One answer is: whenever a clear sky gives you an opening and, of course, the moon is out. The moon is at its fullest on Sunday, but Saturday or Monday or even Tuesday will also offer close-to-full moons.

An ideal time for viewing can be around moonrise, when a view juxtaposed against the horizon can make the moon look bigger and more colorful (an optical illusion caused by Earth?s atmosphere).

Moonrise times this weekend vary across the country and around the world. But here are some reference points that may help.

On Saturday in the US, many cities will see the moon come up around 8 p.m. local time. In some places it?s a little before 8: Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Washington. In some places it?s a little after: Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle. You can look up exact times for your location at the US Naval Observatory website.

Around the rest of the world, many major cities have similar moonrise times, but some come as much as a couple of hours earlier (notably in the Southern hemisphere) or after 9 p.m. (for some northerly cities).

For Sunday, you can add about 50 minutes to Saturday?s times. Or again, for precise times you can check in with the US Naval Observatory.

Happy viewing!

5 Ways to Improve Your Relationship Right Now! | World of ...

5 Ways to Improve Your Relationship Right Now!All relationships ? even the best ones ? require continuous care and hard work. But that doesn?t necessarily mean taking big actions or making dramatic changes.

Little tweaks also can be tremendously helpful. That?s because simple, everyday positive behaviors add up. Don?t believe us? Give these a try and you may be surprised.

Below, Julie Orlov, MSW, a psychotherapist and author of the book? The Pathway to Love, shared five ways you can instantly improve your relationship.

1. Focus on what you love about your partner.

After spending years together and dealing with day-to-day stressors, couples can forget to focus on the positive. Relationships can easily become a litany of ?you didn?t do this? or ?stop doing that.?

That?s why Orlov suggested reminding yourself ?what it was that made you fall in love with your spouse.? Focus on the qualities you appreciate. ?And don?t forget to share those thoughts with your spouse.?

2. Touch your partner.

?When you have physical contact, it is harder to remain closed off, angry and disconnected.? Just touching your partner or giving them a hug can go a long way in connecting you as a couple, Orlov said. ?

3. Listen to your partner.

Take the time to listen to what?s important to your partner. According to Orlov, ?if your spouse has something to say to you about their feelings, needs, reaction or wants, it behooves you to truly listen rather than respond with either your own opinion or defensiveness to what they said.?

That?s because once you put down your defenses and stop rehearsing your own responses in your head, you?ll be able to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of your partner, and your relationship.

4. Find the humor in a situation.

Humor heals. It provides us with perspective. ?Laughter also releases a lot of stress, allowing more positive feelings to ensue,? Orlov said. Try to find the light side of a situation, and laugh together.

5. Get intimate.

?When you connect in a way that is sacred to your relationship alone, you can?t help but feel more intimate and connected,? Orlov said. Plus, the release of feel-good chemicals also enhances your love and attachment, she said.

Relationships require regular maintenance, and the above tips can help you build a healthy, meaningful bond. Often, it?s the small steps, taken every day, that can make a big, positive difference in cultivating your connection.

Mt.Gox Bitcoin exchange freezes US dollar withdrawals for two weeks

MtGox Bitcoin exchange freezes US dollar withdrawls for two weeks

It's easy to see that the Bitcoin market is under stress when there's rising overall activity and tighter oversight. However, it's now so hectic that the Mt. Gox exchange has trouble fulfilling even basic transactions -- and the institution is freezing US dollar withdrawals for two weeks to keep things in check. Mt. Gox's team will use the downtime to upgrade its trading system and (hopefully) address the heavy workload. Deposits and transfers in American currency should still be good to go. Let's just hope that Mt. Gox manages smoother transitions in the future -- after all, not everyone can afford to leave their money in limbo during a tech refresh.
